Content Drop for week ending 1/1/2021

Here are a few of the things that I’ve read/watched this week that I’ve found interesting and think that others might find useful. As always, this concept is largely borrowed (purloined?) from the InfoSec blog posts that Bill Sempf does.

  • Game developer Richard Garriot (AKA Lord British) smuggled James Doohan’s (AKA Scotty) ashes onto the ISS.

  • Top soft skills that professionals need for 2020 - adaptability is on the list because you know, 2020 was awful and forced us to change and work in new ways.

  • I really loved this presentation on Design Thinking for Blue Teams - not only because InfoSec is a hot topic right now but because it shows another way Design Thinking can be used to make lives better.

  • Scott Hanselman updated his list of Developer and Power User tools and it’s full of amazing stuff - it was also a reminder for me to finally install the Windows 10 Power Tools which are freaking awesome (especially the PowerToys Run one)

  • Something to keep an eye on in 2021 will be how we track folks who have been vaccinated and how good that tracking is. It’s a bit on the creepy side for sure but we’ll need some form of vaccination passport . I’m guessing this stuff is blockchain based but we’ll see how it plays out next year.
